Teacher's FAQ's

This page is targeted towards teachers and answers some logistical questions, as well as explaining the benefits of using our lesson plans.

1. How can I fit Equity in Classics' lesson plans into my teaching schedule?

We understand that teaching schedules are busy and planning can be hectic. Our lesson plans are designed to fit into a single one-hour period per week, with additional free resources on our website for pupils who are extra keen and want to continue their exploration into the ancient world above and beyond the walls of the classroom.

2. Why should I use Equity in Classics' lesson plans?

Although it may not be on the national curriculum, it is crucial for KS2 pupils to learn the building blocks to understanding black history. Our aim is both to decolonise Ancient history and texts for key stage 2 aged-children, but also to inspire the next generation of classicists of colour.

3. What background knowledge will my child / student need?

Our worksheets and lesson plans are targeting towards children with little to no prior knowledge of Africans in antiquity or the Classical world in general.

4. How is this project supporting my child's SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural) development?

Our lesson plans reveal the relevance of the Classical world that still exists today. Our project educates children in cultures and areas outside of the Western world, and includes figures of different social and economic class. Through this, we hope to create and enhance their understanding of both the ancient world and our world today.

5. Where can I find additional resources if I want to continue to learn more about Africans in antiquity?

On our 'Resource Page' we have included different authors, scholars and figures that you or your child can access if they wish to continue their study of Africans in antiquity.
